Tokyo Day Tour

Shinagawa Prince
The lobby of our hotel in Tokyo. Across the street from the Shinagawa JR Station.

Disney Seas
Disney Seas is possibly the best theme park i've even been to. It was incredibly elaborate, meticulously thorough, and the food was great (mmm.. sausage rolls). I have more pictures but I left them at home. This is a picture of Venice, with a Renaissance era castle.

Kaminarimon: Thunder Gate
The main gate to Kinryuzan Sensouji, aka the Asakusa Kannon Temple. On the left you can see Raijin, god of thunder. To the right of the gate is Fuujin, god of wind. The gate dates from 942 A.D. and was reconstructed in 1960.

Nakamise
You can see the temple in front. On both sides are shops, part of Nakamise street, a crowded lane of shops leading to the temple. The shops, dating to the Edo period, sell traditional crafts and sweets as well as tourist trinkets. Especially good were sweet-bean filled cakes in the shape of faces and the Kaminarimon lantern.

Asakusa Kannon Temple
The oldest in Tokyo, this temple dates back to the Nara period, when around 628 a man fished a small statue of the Goddess of Mercy from the river. It is supposed to be enshrined within.

A fun thing to do here: Omikuji, fortunetelling. You make a donation of 100 yen and shake a box until a bamboo sliver comes out. You then match the number on your sliver to a piece of paper you get out of a drawer. If I remember correctly, this is the only place we visited where the omikuji were translated into English. Otherwise, I found them REALLY hard to read, since they use archaic language.

Ginza
This clock tower is the symbol of Ginza, and sits atop the Wako Building. Inside are insanely pricey shops. This tower figures prominantly in X18 (translation out soon!).
