Tokyo Tower

Tokyo Tower
At an auspicious 333 meters, Tokyo Tower is taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris, which it is modeled after. Completed in the year 1958, it is the world's tallest self-supporting steel tower.

150 Feet Up
We paid 820 yen to get to the Main Observatory, 150 feet up.

Main Observatory
Here we are in the Main Observatory. There was a gift shop and a shrine, as well as a bunch of pay-per-view binoculars.

A Scene out of CLAMP
Two conventions in anime and manga revolve around Tokyo Tower. The more famous of the two is Tokyo Tower getting destroyed in some fantastic manner. Luckily, I don't have a picture of that. The second is that every elementary class takes a trip to Tokyo Tower (and this could be true for all I know). This photo could be taken from the pages of a CLAMP manga, the beginning of Rayearth, for example. Yes, that amuses me. Yes, I'm a dork.

Zojoji Temple
A view of Zojoji Temple from Tokyo Tower. It became the Tokugawa (Shogun durin the Edo Period) family temple in 1590, and houses the Tokugawa mausoleum. The temple was built in 1393, and was moved to its present location in 1598. It is the main temple of the Buddhist Jodo sect in Eastern Japan (Kanto).

Upper right is the view from the North, upper left is the view from the left. The green patch to the upper right of the north window is the Imperial Palace. Somewhere to the left of that is the National Diet Building, which I was trying to photograph.
